Friday, seven o'clock, the office finally behind us. Six coworkers, one course at PopStroke The Colony, and a long-standing grudge between Accounting and Marketing that only putting could resolve.
I am in Marketing. I had something to prove.
We ordered from the course before the second hole, because a team that drinks together reads greens together. The drinks arrived on the fourth, a spicy skinny margarita for every one of us, green and glowing like a traffic light telling us to go.
1800 Cucumber and Jalapeno Tequila, cool on the front and warm on the back, like a handshake that turns into a hug. Fresh lime juice. Organic agave, just a touch. Fresh cucumbers, crisp as a new dollar bill. Jalapenos, sliced thin, little green fireworks. And a Tajin rim, tangy and red, a sunset around the edge of the glass.
I took a sip. My eyes widened. Then I stepped up to an uphill putt on a two-tier green, twenty-five feet, a ridge running through the middle like a spine.
I hit it firm. It climbed the ridge, hesitated, and fell in.
Birdie. Marketing erupted. Accounting demanded a recount. Deborah from Payroll, who had been quietly winning the whole time, simply raised her glass and said nothing, the smuggest Tajin rim I have ever seen.

Surf instructors are out of this world. Kind and make people want to join in! My little brother came to town this week and Ryan showed him some sauce baby, he was absolutely shredding. Food was heat the mahi tacos are so buss, sliders are fire, and the Kona big wave, let me just say “Heat in the cold of winter” that’s how she makes me feel.
